Shifu – Japanese paper thread making workshop with Ellie Burkett June 6th 10am – 4pm
Come along and learn to make paper thread from Japanese washi paper. Ellie has studied with a master kami-ito thread maker in Japan and will share some of the skills she learned.
The workshop will include:
Rubbing and rolling prepared paper to make kami-ito (Paper thread)
Cutting and preparing own samples
ussing konnayaku pasted paper to make an embossed sample
At the end of the day you can use your own kit to weave, knit, knot, crochet or sew with your thread
Participants will need to bring their own cutting mat, knife and metal rule and kit for experimenting with the thread you produce.
In addition if you have any Indian wood block stamps or something with a textured surface that can be used to emboss the paper please bring these along as well.
