Off-Loom Weaving Workshop

This one-day off-loom weaving workshop is an invitation to experiment, play and explore the creative potential of weave beyond the loom. The workshop will focus on process, material exploration and the exciting possibilities of both 2D and 3D form.

Participants will be introduced to a carefully selected range of techniques including binding and cords, twining, off-loom weaving, looping, double half hitch and free-line double half hitches. Rather than concentrating on perfect structure, the emphasis will be on discovering how materials, shape, texture and technique can work together in unexpected and expressive ways.

Using both conventional yarns and unconventional materials, attendees will explore:

  • Innovative and traditional material combinations
  • Contrasting and tonal relationships in warp and weft
  • Textural qualities and tactile surfaces
  • Combining techniques to create shape, structure and form
  • The joy of “going rogue” through experimentation and pla​​

Eco Printing Workshop

Eco Printing

Tutor: Andrea Sharpe

The workshop will offer an introduction to eco printing with plants onto fabric to create shapes and patterns. Here are the materials that will be provided for each person and are included in the cost of the workshop:

  • ​Pre mordanted fabric on which to print
  • Wooden dowels
  • Selection of plant material for printing
  • Coloured threads
  • Written ​instructions

 You will need to bring:

  • A water spray/ spritz bottle for damping down the fabric
  • Strong string eg cotton, undyed
  • ​Scissors for cutting string
  • Wrapping material for bundles eg tin foil, cling film or scrap fabric
  • Large plastic bag to protect the table surface eg black bin liner
  • Plastic bag to take home wet work
  • An apron, or wear old clothes
  • Washing up gloves or disposable gloves to protect your hands from heat and staining
