Off-Loom Weaving Workshop
This one-day off-loom weaving workshop is an invitation to experiment, play and explore the creative potential of weave beyond the loom. The workshop will focus on process, material exploration and the exciting possibilities of both 2D and 3D form.
Participants will be introduced to a carefully selected range of techniques including binding and cords, twining, off-loom weaving, looping, double half hitch and free-line double half hitches. Rather than concentrating on perfect structure, the emphasis will be on discovering how materials, shape, texture and technique can work together in unexpected and expressive ways.
Using both conventional yarns and unconventional materials, attendees will explore:
- Innovative and traditional material combinations
- Contrasting and tonal relationships in warp and weft
- Textural qualities and tactile surfaces
- Combining techniques to create shape, structure and form
- The joy of “going rogue” through experimentation and pla
