Monthly Guild Meeting – Ceres Studio 1
Ceres Studio was co-founded by Lara Mantell and Florence Hawkins in 2020.
Their light‑filled studio above the vibrant streets of Brixton houses a custom print table and a rich larder of natural dyes. As modern alchemists, they experiment with making colour for screen printing from local and sustainable sources, embracing the fluidity of natural dye and its luminous colours that shift, combine and metamorphose into new shades. They print these entrancing colours onto organic hemp, European linen, silks, wool, and paper, and design, research, and collaborate layered intersections of colour and pattern. As a duo, and individually, they teach methods for extracting and screen‑printing with natural dyes. Their outward‑looking practice has influenced a growing ecology of natural dye‑printers in the UK and abroad.
