Monthly Guild Meeting – The Whitchurch Silk Mill

Exploring the processes, people and purpose behind one of the UK’s last working silk mills.  In this illustrated talk, Sue Tapliss shares the story of Whitchurch Silk Mill and its role in preserving the endangered craft of silk weaving. Drawing on first-hand experience, Sue offers an insight into the processes, looms and skills that underpin the Mill’s work, alongside the challenges and opportunities of keeping a historic craft alive in the modern world. From design to finished fabric, the talk explores how tradition and museum practice sit side by side in one of the UK’s last surviving working silk mills.
